About the County Attorney

What does the Lewis & Clark County Attorney do?

The County Attorney is an elected non-partisan official who manages a team of approximately 30 people, and serves as a leader in the community. The office is responsible for:

  • Prosecuting criminal offenses committed within the county

  • Providing legal advice for the county’s officials and agencies

  • Handling juvenile proceedings and child abuse and neglect cases

  • Handling involuntary commitments, including those for the mentally ill 

  • Administrator of estates for people who pass away without heirs or are incapacitated 

  • Partnering with law enforcement agencies, county commissioners, the courts, and other community leaders in various sectors

Lewis & Clark County has not had a County Attorney race in over two decades. The general election is November 8th, 2022.
